Anniversary Haiku

Anniversary Haiku

Marry me again, Love
Everything you touch, beauty
Our Love forevermore

Broke the rules again
Eight instead of seven there
Freedom is magic

Marry me again, Love
All you touch turns to beauty
Our love forevermore

A true haiku

Rescue

Rescue
I could spend the rest of my life feeding this monster
For when I starve it, it doesn’t go away
So either way I seem to be a perpetual roommate
To something that is destructive to me
Right in the midst of making history
Right in the midst of a changing tide I decide
To go back into the darkened waters again
Another swim
in the ice bath of indecision and doubt
Then a rout of the accusations begin
So another swim
I just keep going deeper and deeper

The sounds of happiness are outside in the back yard
Children running and playing
Speaking of things completely insensible
Yet of reality all the same
They are not naive nor are they ignorant
They are simply more aware
Of the life that is flowing through their hearts

The sounds of the music grow stronger
The chords bring meaning and wonder to me
They progress towards the oceans of deeper
Where light is in the depths of the sea
It was the laughter that made all the difference
It was the joy in the running that came
It was the smiles of playing innocent children
That brought me right out of mundane

Petting Pixie

Petting Pixie
When one can write about everything
It can be hard to write about anything
I could write about penguins and naps
I could talk about brie cheese or traps
There could be all sorts of adventuresome meanderings
Or I could simply sit here and pet the dachshund
Otherwise she would go on one of her infamous barking rampages
Looking up and around at only God-knows-what
I assume she sees the world that lies beyond
For otherwise there is nothing there I can see
I do know that living in this simplicity
Enjoying the moment with her head against my calf
Rubbing her ears as I pet her gently
Makes me wonder why we make such a bother
About things that 20 minutes from now won’t matter
So instead of trying to solve the world’s greatest mysteries
With what I have of my brain and what I have of my pen
Instead of bypassing the joy of this brief moment of Zen
I will pet the dog, look out the window at the mountains
Being thankful I am fully alive

The Day After the Best Day

The Day After the Best Day
It’s funny how I want certain days to linger
Almost drowning in all of the goodness
Exhausted from the fun
Yet, a night of sleeping later
I awake to a sense that all of that is now a memory
There is stillness in the now
Unknowing in the future
I reach back to see what’s left from yesterday
And find much treasure there
Yet I know I cannot dwell there
Missing the treasure of today
The hope of tomorrow
I find that gratefulness keeps the memories whole
Fresh amongst the newly blooming flowers
Gratefulness keeps me right where I need to be
In the center of all of God’s goodness
So I take this moment in the right here and right now
I thank You for bringing me here
Everything has turned out for good
Just like You said it would

I am so thankful

Hero

Hero
My grandfather rested in a recliner at 50,
My father walked many laps at 50,
I will run at 50,
My sons and daughters will sprint with great endurance at 50,
And my grandsons and granddaughters will fly at 50.
My great grandsons and great granddaughters will reach the moon at 50
and my great great grandsons and daughters will touch the edges of the universe at 50.

The stars of the generations of life,
thus are the generations of life

Who are the heroes in the story?

All of us.

Because we decided to keep moving along.
We decided to not allow our pasts to determine who we are,
We decided not to allow our pasts to determine where we are going,
Nor to determine how quickly we move beyond
We all played our role in this comedic drama called life

My grandfather worked hard for pittance, expending his heart
My father decided to break out of a cycle, moving us all into a different orbit
I decided there was more, and pointed us to the edge of the universe
My children and their children will take the baton beyond

The stars of the generations of life
Thus are the generations of life

“Not so for me” you say?
You can decide to change the way
Your future touches the universe
You can be the one

You can be the hero

Dedicated to Lillie Carter. You may have passed away today, but eternity will tell the impact your mercy, generosity, and prayers made. You are one of the heroes.
